Change a product's page address without losing Google traffic
Paid versionContent & SEO
Your product gets a clean page address and keeps its Google traffic, because old links forward to the new one.
What it replaces: 30 min per address plus setting up forwarding
What you write to Claude
„change the url of product id 312 to linen-sofa-cover-grey, and make sure the old one redirects”
The problem
The product's page address still has the supplier's code in it. I want a clean address but I'm afraid of losing Google traffic.
What Claude does
- Claude checks that your shop forwards old addresses the right way.
- It shows the old and new address before saving.
- If something in the shop would break the forwarding, it stops and tells you what to change.
- After your yes, it saves and checks that the old address leads to the new one.
What you get
The product has a clean address and the old one forwards visitors and Google to it permanently.
You stay in control
You see the new address before it's saved and nothing happens without your yes. To go back, you change the address again.

Step by step
- Checks URL settings with ps_get_shop_info (canonical redirect must be 301).
- Calls ps_change_url without confirm. The preview shows old and new address, any addresses changed along with it, and whether the old one will 301.
- Stops if the shop redirects with 302, runs in debug mode or a module overrides routes, and tells you what to change.
- After your approval, saves the new slug and checks the old address itself, expecting a 301 to the new one.
- Confirms with ps_inspect_page.
Safety
Preview and approval as for every write. URL changes are not undone with ps_revert_change; to go back, Claude makes another URL change with a 301.
