Move products between categories

Paid versionContent & SEO

You reorganise categories without breaking links or spending hours dragging products.

What it replaces: 1-3 h of drag and drop per category

What you write to Claude

„move all products from Lighting (id 20) to Garden lighting (id 34), also keep them in Sale (id 9), and make Garden lighting their default”

The problem

We're splitting 'Lighting' into indoor and outdoor. That's 140 products to move and I'm scared of breaking links.

What Claude does

  1. Claude finds the old and new categories.
  2. It prepares the move for all products at once.
  3. The preview shows categories before and after and which page addresses change.
  4. After your yes it saves and checks that old addresses forward to the new ones.

What you get

Products sit in the new categories with the right main category. If page addresses change, visitors are forwarded from the old ones.

You stay in control

You see every change before it is saved, nothing happens without your yes, and you can undo it later.

Step by step

  1. Finds category IDs with ps_get_category_tree.
  2. Calls ps_set_product_categories with from_category_id, add_category_ids, remove_category_ids and default_category_id (up to 200 products).
  3. Shows a preview with the old and new values side by side and waits for your approval. The preview lists categories before and after per product and, if the category is part of product URLs, which addresses change and whether old ones redirect with 301.
  4. After your yes, saves it like the Save button in the back office and logs it in the change history.
  5. Spot-checks an old product URL with ps_inspect_page to confirm the 301.

Safety

Every write shows a preview first and runs only after you approve it (one-time token, valid 30 minutes). Each change is logged and can be undone with ps_revert_change.
