Create new categories and move products into them
A crowded category becomes a few clear ones, with products sorted and best sellers on top, in one conversation.
What it replaces: a day of clicking through categories
What you write to Claude
„split Lamps into ceiling, wall and garden subcategories, move the products by what they are, and put the 10 best sellers first in each. new categories stay hidden till I check”
The problem
Our Lamps category has 300 products. I want to split it into ceiling, wall and garden lamps and put the best sellers on top.
What Claude does
- Claude proposes the new categories with names and short texts; they start hidden.
- It sorts the products into them by name, features and description, and lists the unsure ones for you.
- It puts the best sellers first in each new category.
- You approve each step; the new categories go live at once or stay hidden until you switch them on.
What you get
Lamps is split into clear subcategories, each with its own text, the right products and the best sellers first.
You stay in control
You see every change before it is saved, nothing happens without your yes, and you can undo it later.

- Tools
- ps_get_category_tree, ps_get_product_sales, ps_manage_categories, ps_set_product_categories, ps_search_products
Step by step
- Reads the tree with ps_get_category_tree and sales per category with ps_get_product_sales (category_id).
- Creates subcategories with ps_manage_categories (action create: parent_id, name, description, meta; inactive unless you ask for active=true).
- Moves products with ps_set_product_categories (add the new category, set it as default, optionally remove the parent); the preview shows address changes and whether old addresses redirect with 301.
- Orders products with ps_manage_categories (action sort_products: listed products first, the rest keep their order).
- Moving a whole category under another parent uses action move: its address stays, menu and breadcrumbs change.
Safety
Every write shows a preview first and runs only after you approve it (one-time token, valid 30 minutes). Each change is logged and can be undone with ps_revert_change. A created category can be undone only while it is empty. The tool has no separate switch for existing categories: hidden categories are switched on in the back office (Catalog > Categories) or created with active=true after you approve the preview.
